Imphal, November 09 2016:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has taken strong exception to the decision of MU authority to abrogate the MoU signed on November 7 and added that it will not remain a silent spectator.
The MoU of November 7 was signed between ATSUM, KSO (GHqs), ANSAM, MUTSU, DESAM and the VC of the varsity and the Registrar.
Strongly condemning the volte face of the VC and MU authority, ATSUM in a statement said that they have taken the law into their hands overlooking the judgement of the High Court of Manipur and the directives of the UGC and the Ministry of Human Resource Department.
The very act of signing another MoU with another group of students and abrogating the MoU signed on November 7 testifies that MU authority is against the rule of law, said ATSUM.
The Union Ministry of HRD had clearly stated that Deans and Heads of Departments are not competent to take decision or change reservation in admission, said ATSUM and hence the decision of the Deans and Heads of Departments taken on November 7 is not acceptable.
Such an arbitrary decision is a direct challenge to the tribal community, said ATSUM and added that an emergency meeting has been convened on November 10 at 10 am at the office of ATSUM to decide the future course of action.
