Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal today remanded Laishram Herojit @ Shintha, general secretary of Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA), Thoubal to 5 days police custody.
Laishram Herojit @ Shintha (27), S/o L Maine of Heirok Part III Champrathong Maning was produced before the Court by a team of Thoubal police under section 39 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for allegedly being an overground worker of a banned underground outfit.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that Herojit was arrested by Thoubal commandos at around 2.15 pm on Wednesday (April 7) from near Canteen Lampak at Wangjing based on an input from a reliable source.
Laishram Herojit was then handed over to the Thoubal police station by the commando team.
The IO said that Herojit needs to be kept in police custody to extract more information about his involvement in other prejudicial activities.
The Court also heard the submission of the accused who expressed his desire to consult his parents/ family members for his defence counsel and prayed for allowing him to meet his parents and family.
The Court on perusal of the case record, submission of the IO and the accused and considering the stage of the investigation, remanded Laishram Herojit to five days police custody (till April 12) and also allowed the accused to meet his parents/family members.
