Imphal, December 01 2013 :
Committee on Protection of Agricultural Land, Heingang and Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation have objected State Government's plan to set up a Pony Sanctuary at Heingang Pat.
Speaking at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club, Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources Organisation Advisor Mutum Churamani said that no agricultural land would be given to the Government for setting up of the sanctuary at the area.
He questioned why the Government is always looking for easy-to-get land only instead of applying mind to develop the sanctuary on the land, where past Government projects are lying defunct.
Saying that Pony Farm at Tingkhai Khunou had already failed to serve the desired purpose in the past, Churamani said that an Army post has been set up on the said land.
He further claimed that lands acquired for Horse Riding at Lamphelpat and Buffalo Farm at Tekcham are lying ununsed since past many years.
Churamani further questioned why the Government does not think over developing the land at Tingkhai Khunou for the proposed sanctuary instead of acquiring fresh agricultural land at Heingang Pat.
The Government's move would snatch away land from the people of around 100 surnames who are earning livelihood from around 120 paris of land, he added.
Land owners of the area said that the Government has started fencing of the said land without giving proper information to them.
The land owners said that they would object every move to construct any building or execute projects on agricultural land anywhere.
Protection of Agricultural Land and Natural Resources President Tomba and Committee on Protection of Agricultural Land, Heingang general secretary A Mangi were also present at the press conference.
