Ukhrul elders rally on Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Tangkhul Kharar Long (TKL) in collaboration with Service for Elder (SFE) Ukhrul conducted a rally against Elder Abuse at Ukhrul as part of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, 2015, Mungchan Zimik reports.
The rally which was flagged off from two different points converged at TNL hall, Wino Bazar, Ukhrul for a meeting.
Slogans like, 'Re-pay your debts to elders', 'Avoid elder abuse', 'Penalty for abandonment of elder is 3 months in jail', 'Don't abuse your elder, you will grow up to be one yourself', 'Abusers are ungrateful persons, expose them', etc were sounded during the rally.
More than 500 elders joined the rally.
The meeting commenced with Reverend HA Thanmi, Pastor, PBC invoking a special prayer for elderly persons of the district.
Chairman of Ukhrul Elder Forum TKL, CH Pheirei alleged that most of the beneficiary schemes meant for aged citizens are yet to reach majority of the aged citizens.
A memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed by 300 elders on behalf of the District Elders Forum, Ukhrul was submitted through the Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul during the meeting.
The memorandum demanded redressal of beneficiary schemes and provisions of all the benefits under the Integrated Programme for Elder Persons (IPOP), Government of India.
