Price of school uniform

School authorities are selling school uniform and other stationery items at an exorbitant price, stated secretary general of DESAM P Premchandra.
Addressing a press meet this evening at DESAM head office, Premchandra said, "DESAM conducted a survey in different schools in and around Imphal area to determine the prices of school uniform and other stationery items charged by the respective school authorities.
During the survey a higher secondary school at Sangakpham was found to have charged more than its actual MRP on school uniform" .
He added that a pair of shoes with an MRP of Rs 420 was sold at Rs 450.Likewise, belts which cost about Rs 180 in the market were sold at the rate of Rs 400 per piece.
He further said that socks, sweaters, school bags were all sold at prices much higher than the MRP.
He stated that such act of looting from students by school authorities should not be encouraged by anyone.
Stating that such survey will be conducted time to time in other areas as well, he urged the school authorities to extend cooperation.
Commenting on the recent trend of wearing a wrap-around by girl students instead of the traditional 'phanek', Premchandra urged the girl students to opt for the latter.
Meanwhile, S Bormani, secondary education and academic affair, DESAM, asserted that many underground groups consider private educational institutions as 'money bags' .
Such attitude of various underground organizations have forced the school authorities to make education sector a business centre which has severely affected the academic atmosphere.
