Media team to visit ambush site

A journalist team of the State will visit Paraolong area of Chandel district on Tuesday (June 16) to oversee the current situation and the ground reality there.
A combined team of militants launched a major ambush on the 6 Dogra Regiment killing 18 personnel and injuring 15 others on June 4 in Paraolong area.
The inspection visit is being organised by the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU).
Union president Wangkhemcha Shamjai told our agency that that the tour is being organised as the residents of Paraolong village requested the union to inspect the site.
Moreover, various NGOs and civil organisations had also suggested the union to visit the ambush site.
He also stated that a journalist team of Manipur tried to enter the ambush site on June 5, immediately after the attack, however, army personnel prohibited them from visiting it citing security reasons.
The Army warned that there might be mine bombs and mentioned other possible dangers in the area, Shamjai said.
Tuesday's programme is being organised with necessary communication and information from the top officials of the Army, he added.
The team will leave early morning of Tuesday at 5 am from DIPR Complex, Imphal.
The team will inspect the ground reality of the area and will also focus on the nature of the counter-offensive operation being conducted in the area and also on the possible violation of human rights.
