Imphal, June 15 2015 :
The All Manipur Selected Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP) Beneficiaries Committee has announced a 24-hour general strike from June 19 midnight.
A press meet was held by the committee today at the Manipur Press Club.
A spokesperson stated that the beneficiaries got loans and other assistance under the Manipur State Co-operative Bank (MSCB) Limited as part of the Special Employment Generation Programme (SEGP).
However, the failing projects in the State such as Loitang Khunou Spinning Mill, MSRTC and disasters such as floods, droughts, outbreaks of Bird Flu and Swine Flu etc had caused huge hardship to the beneficiaries and the loanees in paying back their loans.
Later, the dejected loanees pleaded the Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister, State Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers and the three MPs of Manipur by submitting memoranda requesting writing off the loans.
But so far, no positive response has come.
In such a situation, the committee is demanding the board of directors of MSCB Ltd to stop delaying pays for the surety persons of the beneficiaries in the interest of all and to officially clear the burden of loans to them.
To strengthen their demand, the committee has decided to call the 24-hour Manipur bandh
on June 20 .
