Mob attacks commando team, one injured

One personnel of Thoubal commando sustained critical injuries when a commando team went to drive away some youngsters who were creating nuisance on the highway at Lilong Arapti area by doing bike stunts.
On reaching the spot, one local raised a false alarm accusing the commando team of indulging in excessive activities.
Soon a mob gathered at the spot and overpowered one commando personnel while others managed to flee from the spot.
The commando thus detained was physically assaulted by the mob resulting in critical injuries on his head.
The injured personnel identified as A Kishorjit is currently undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital ICU.
However, another source informed that the commando team was on the trail of a gang of vehicle lifters when they were attacked by a mob.
According to the source, the incident occurred at around 2.30 pm when a group of youth created disturbances to passers-by by doing motorcycle stunts on the National Highway (Imphal-Moreh road) at Lilong Arapti Lamkhai, some 700 metres away from Lilong police station.
Some of the passers-by complained about the disturbance to the commando personnel posted at the nearby area after which some of the commando personnel rushed to the spot to clear the road.
As the commando personnel were trying to drive away the youth who were creating disturbance to the passers-by, one person identified as Md Tonsana of Lilong Heinoumakhong raised a hue and cry against the commando personnel.
Soon a large crowd gathered on hearing the outcry.
While some of the commando personnel went after the bike borne youth, one 1st Manipur Rifle personnel attached with Thoubal commando namely A Kishorjit was left alone at the spot after which one Arib s/o Yakub snatched his service weapon leading to a direct confrontation.
During the confrontation, Md Arib hit Kishorjit with a hard object on his head.
Soon after the incident additional police of Thoubal rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
When a team of police led by Lilong SDPO rushed to the spot to retrieve the injured personnel, a short confrontation took place between the police and local people at the scene The SDPO's police Gypsy was also damaged during the incident but somehow they managed to retrieve the injured person from the spot and got him admitted to the hospital.
