Imphal, July 02 2014:
Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has said that KIM's proposed peaceful protest rally to be held on July 4 to air their grievances over the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the Government of India towards the plight of the Kukis who had lost their lives during the Kuki-Naga clash during the early 90s is an attempt to stir up misunderstanding again between the Kukis and Nagas.
ZYF in a statement alleged said that it was planned by some vested interest people.
However, such attempt would not fructify as the people of both the communities are very much aware of the past and do not desire to repeat the same, the statement added.
The Kuki people are not the only one who suffered but Naga people suffered much more at the hands of the different Kuki underground groups.
To cite some instances, on October 19, 1994, a passenger bus was pushed down to a gorge near Kotlien village on NH 53 by Kuki underground cadres killing more than 20 innocent people instantly and several other passengers were seriously injured.
Another passenger bus was stopped near Sekjang village on NH 53 and killed innocent people after pulling down from the bus, the statement added.
Nagas were killed by Kuki underground cadres at Kangpokpi bazar, IT Road, Hengbung, different villages in Chandel district, on the Imphal-Ukhrul road, in Churachandpur district, Senapati district and other places.
However, for the sake of peace and tranquillity, the Naga people neither observe 'Black day' nor stage rally till today.
But this does not mean that the Nagas have totally forgotten their near and dear ones, the statement added.
The reality and outcome of the clash where such innocent people of both the parties had to lose their precious lives was that the State Government at that time did not take up or provide adequate security measures to ensure safety of the people, the statement said.
The only measures was that security personnel as escort party was provided only once or hardly twice in a week thereby particularly the innocent Nagas who had to travel on emergency purposes on off security escort day be it on medical ground were not spared apart from many villagers were killed by the Kuki underground.
Are these not the crime? .
