Lamka, February 18 2014 :
Alleging that the State Government's interference in implementing MGNREGS is threatening to stall the much celebrated flagship scheme in the state, the All Tribal Chief Forum Manipur and United Chief Committee today made it implicit their intention to boycott the Congress candidates in the ensuing Lok Sabha poll.
The Chiefs alleged that the State Government despite receiving necessary funds for implementing the scheme from the Central Government has released funds for only 14 days wages and a bleak 10 percent of material cost as against the normal 40 percent.
The chiefs after duly discussing the matter today at Sielmat have decided to highlight the matter to Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi and the Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh.
Nonetheless, they have also decided to start an agitation on March 1 if the State still fails to redress their grievances by February 28 .
Even after the March 1 agitation and if the Government still remains adamant, the Chiefs maintain they will have no other options but to boycott the Congress candidate in the ensuing Lok Sabha election and that of the State Government.
