Campus children's bird sanctuary inaugurated

The first campus children's bird sanctuary of the State was inaugurated at Twinkle Star Academy, Kongba Huirem Leikai on Feb 16 .
According to a statement, the bird sanctuary is sponsored by the St Peter's Shillong Alumni Association (Manipur Chapter) in collaboration with Meghalaya Environment and Wildlife Society (MEWS-India) .
Peter Thorose, Secretary of MEWS and Dancy Dora, treasurer of the society cut the inaugural ribbon to open the first campus children's bird sanctuary.

In his speech, Peter emphasised the importance of saving birds from being killed while also educating the children on how the birds help in controlling harmful insects.
The function ended with Dancy selecting few students to become the senior and junior wardens of the campus.
St Peter's Shillong Alumni Association (Manipur Chapter) has taken initiative to cover various schools in Imphal to convert the campuses into children's bird sanctuary, the statement added.
