Security forces arrest UG cadres, others

Based on a reliable information, a combined team of Bishnupur district police commando unit, 2/5 GR and 6 Assam Rifles arrested a PLA cadre on Dec 25 while conducting a search operation at Moirang Bazar.
The PRO statement identified the arrested cadre as Moirangthem Korbin alias Naoba alias Likla Meitei (24) S/o M Kullabidhu Meitei of Kumbi Setupur Mamang Leikai.
A case has been registered at Moirang Police Station and investigation is going on.
In an unrelated incident the same day, a combined team of Bishnupur District Police commando unit and 2/5 GR conducted search operation at Keinou Bazar area and arrested one active member of URF, namely, Yumnam Mani Singh alias Nanao alias Telheiba (35) S/o (L) Y Kumar Khansa of Thoubal Thong Ahanbi.
One 7.65 mm pistol with one magazine having four live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition and incriminating articles were seized from his possession.
Investigation revealed that he was involved in serving demand letters to the businessmen of Imphal area, it said.
A case has been registered at Bishnupur Police Station and investigation is going on.
At the same time, a combined team of Thoubal District Police commando unit and 22 Assam Rifles conducted frisking and checking at Hiyanglam Laipangamba area on Dec 25 and arrested an active member of UNLF, namely, Naorem Gouridas alias Punshishemba Singh (40) S/o (L) N Nandakeshor Singh of Kakching Chumnang Leikai.
A case has been registered at Kakching Police Station and investigation is going on.
On Dec 26, during a mobile frisking and checking in and around Lamlai Bazar, a team of Imphal East District Police commando unit arrested a member of a gang which indulged in extorting money from the private schools in the name of URF, organisation, namely, Phijam Chitaranjan Meitei alias Naocha (22) S/o Ph Tomcha Meitei of Sekta Makha Leikai.
Incriminating articles were seized from his possession.
The Police PRO statement further said that on follow up action, another member of the gang, who is presently functioning as Deputy Secretary of Kangleipak Student Association (KSA) identified as Mayanglambam Anilkumar Meitei alias Tangba (21) S/o M Angangjao Meitei of Sekta Makha Leikai was arrested from Porompat crossing in front of State Bank of India.
Investigation revealed that recently the two of them made monetary demand at two private schools located at the heart of the Imphal City, it said.
Incriminating articles along with one receipt book of Kangleipak Student Association (KSA) were seized from Anilkumar's possession.
Investigation revealed that both the arrested individuals were involved in extortion and collection of huge amount of money from the general public, Government offices, private schools, etc in the name of URF, it added.
A case has been registered at Lamlai Police Station and investigation is going on.
