Tamenglong, August 10, 2013:
A team of surgeons from JNIMS led by Dr N Jitendra, Associate Professor and HOD of Surgery JNIMS has conducted volun-tarily a surgical outreach camp at District Hospital Tameng-long on August 9 and 10. Dr Chambo Gonmei, CMO Tamenglong said, altogether 23 cases (14 major and 9 minor cases) were operated successfully.
This is the second time that the operation was carried out by the JNIMS doctors voluntarily in Tamenglong knowing the hardships faced by the people.
Since no specialist doctors are posted at the District Hospital, which is the first referral unit (FRU) patients requiring surgical intervention had to travel 150 kms to Imphal or elsewhere for further medical treatment, he added.
Dr Gonmei also said, at least the following specialist doctors - general surgeon, gynaecologist, anaesthetist, opthalmologist, ENT surgeon and radiologist should be posted at the District Hospital and the OT should be well equipped with blood storage facility.
Clinical lab should be upgraded with pathologist and microbiologist for necessary investigation.
Till such adequate manpower and infrastructure are provided to the District, it is imperative to have regular surgical camps and other health interventions in public interest, he stressed and expressed that he is deeply touched and grateful to the dedicated surgical team from JNIMS for carrying such innovative and great work for the people of Tamenglong.
