Imphal, April 10 2015 :
The Joint Action Committee constituted against the alleged kidnapping of a minor school girl today demanded immediate resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam following the failure to suspend Lamphel PS OC Okram Dorendro for manhandling the victim's family.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet at Majorkhul Kabui Khul today, member of the JAC, Atompi Kamei stated that if the incident had happened to any family of high ranking bureaucrats or political leaders, prompt action would have been initiated.
The negligence shown by the State Government indicates favouritism where common people are always the victims of the aristocracies.
The State Government has been neglecting the repeated ultimatums submitted by the JAC to the authorities concerned regarding the matter.
The JAC even imposed a 48 hour general strike along the two highways after their demand failed to yield positive results.
Meeting held between the Deputy Chief Minister and the JAC failed to bring an amicable solution, Atompi said.
"Such action proves that the State Government does not care for the sentiments of people belonging to minor communities", added Atompi.
Meanwhile Adim Golmei, secretary of Zeliangrong Students Union, Manipur (ZSUM) and a member of the JAC said that until stringent action is taken against OC O Dorendro, the JAC will not negotiate and will initiate further course of action.
He added that if the State Government fails to comply with the demands placed by the JAC within April 14, it will impose an indefinite blockade along the National Highways.
The JAC also extended their gratitude to various civil society organisations for endorsing the 48 hour bandh called by the JAC from April 7 midnight to April 9 .
