With the arrest of eight persons, Imphal East district police have busted a forgery racket.
Briefing media persons at his Porompat office today, Imphal East SP Kabib K said that a police team led by Additional SP Wungpam Kasar and SDPO Ronnie Mayengbam raided Rome Rubber Stamp Works, Lamlong Keithel and apprehended eight persons including five women along with many articles.
Following recovery of a forged pension book, Imphal East district police have been investigating activities of the forgery racket sincc 10day a back The shop known as Rome Rubber Stamp Works was raided at around 4.30 pm today.
One computer set, two printers, one lamination machine, one rubber stamp making machine, six forged pension books, six Aadhar cards, two driving licences, a number of voter ID cards and certificates of different educational institutions were seized in the process, Kabib said.
In addition, vehicle registration certificates, rubber stamps and seals of different institutions/organisations including Government offices were also seized.
Moreover, nine mobile phones have been recovered from the arrested individuals.
The arrested women have been identified as Irungbam Geeta (52) w/o Ibocha of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai, Wangkheimayum Tombi alias Jenita (35) w/o Kiran of Kyamgei Khoirom Leikai, Sadokpam Inaobi (38) w/o late Sunil of Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Gurumayum Ibeyaima (44) w/o Brajachand of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai and Kongkham Tama (50) w/o late Shyam of Bamonkampu.
Their male companions who have been arrested are Sagolsem Romesh (47) s/o Chaoba of Khurai Chingangbam Leikai, Pukhrimayum Islamuddin (40) s/o late Babu of Kshetrigao Yangbi Khunou and Khuleibam Mustak (20) s/o Randan of Yairipok Bamon Leikai but presently staying at Mantripukhri.
An FIR has been registered against them for cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy and the matter would be investigated further, said the SP.
He then appealed to banks, Government offices, educational institutions and the general public to be wary of such forgery rackets.
