Trainee cops sensitised on human rights

A two-day human rights awareness campaign has begun from today at Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei.
The campaign is being organised under the aegis of Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education, Manipur University.
Speaking at the occasion, Assistant Director of MPTC P Dhiren Singh, MPS observed that the duty of the police is to ensure public protection.
So, the public should not be made to feel scare and insecure or run away at the very sight of police coming their way.
Instead, the public should be made to feel secure and happy as far as possible.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the weapon given to the police is for the protection of the public and it should be used only when something seriously wrong has been done to someone or the society.
Concluding his speech, the police officer appealed to all the trainees to pay attention to the knowledge that would gain from the awareness campaign and make us of them while performing their duties in future.
The president of Steering Committee, Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education, Manipur University Y Kapoor informed that the Centre was established in 2007 .
He observed that everyone is same in the eye of the law and no one can escape from the eye of law.
Co-ordinator of Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education, Manipur University Dr M Suresh Kumar presided over the inaugural function of the campaign which was also attended by Assistant Commandant/Adjutant of MPTC, Pangei H Gyaneshwar Singh; Assistant Commandant, MPTC, Pangei Ksh Rajendro Singh, Deputy SP of MPTC Th Modhuchandra Singh, Deputy SP N Shamungou Singh and Deputy SP S Raghumani Singh as guests of honour.
