In order to give awareness of human rights to the police personnel of the state, the Centre for Human Rights and Duties Education, Manipur University today began a two day training programme on human rights for the police recruits who have been undergoing police training in the Manipur Police Training School Pangei.

Assistant Director, MPTC, P Dhiren said that police is the force which translates the decisions of the three estates of democracy-Legislature, Bureaucracy and Judiciary.
The responsibility of the police in maintaining law and order and peace in a society is huge.
Even though they have arms, the police should not terrify the people whenever they liked.
It is very important to make the people feel a sense of security whenever and wherever they see a policeman.
There are many dos and don'ts for the policemen in their line of duties.
People take policemen as their enemy because of the excessive behaviour of some policemen, Dhiren said.
Y Kapoor, President of the Steering Committee of Centre for Human Rights and Duties said that human right is the birth right of a human being.
The true value of Human Rights can be known only when one knows the difference between human blood and that of a catfish.
In order to prevent violation of human rights by the policemen while doing their duties, inclusion of human rights education as part of their training is a must.
It is because of the irresponsibilities of the policemen that people rise against them whenever they commit a crime or violate human rights, he said.
Besides the training programme being conducted in the training school, the centre will also organize such training programmes in all the districts of the state in association with the concerned SPs.
