Imphal, August 06 2011:
The ongoing ceasework strike by the Government Polytechnic Gazetted Staff Association over non-implementation of the AICTE's revised pay (6th Pay) entered its sixth day today without any concrete response from the Government.
Issuing a statement in this connection, Association secretary L Shamungou Singh asserted that renown educationists and experts in different fields have recommended the 6th Pay after much deliberation.
The Govt of India accepted the recommendation with a view to rein in the engineers in the teaching profession and to counter exodus of engineers to other public and private sectors which are offering better pay with perks.
So, the Govt of Manipur need not debate on the pros and cons of the revised pay put forward by the government of India at this juncture.
If this is the case, then the Govt of Manipur should have insisted on nominating member/members to the committee of 6th Pay Commission at the time of preparation of the sixth pay structure.
As a member of the Indian Union, the Govt of Manipur should respect the education policy of the Govt of India and implement the revised pay as had been done in other States of the country, Shamungou contended.
He also appealed to all the students and their parents/guardians to bear with the striking teachers in their endeavour for demanding justice from the Govt of Manipur.
From out side, we have reaffirmed to continue with the cease work strike until and unless the demand for implementation of 6th pay is toto is fulfilled, the secretary added.
