Imphal, May 17 2011:
Lack of quality control has resulted in wearing out of the newly black-topped road stretch commonly known as Konjeng Hazari Leikai Dhobi Machu Leirak within a few days of completing the work, local residents have lamented.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, president of Youth Development Club of Konjeng Hazari Leikai Th Gopeshwor informed that the contract work for black-topping of around 167 metres long road stretch commonly known as Dhobi Machu Leirak which connects with Sega Road was taken up by one K Premananda of Sagolband Meino Leirak.
However, instead of maintaining the quality of the work, the said contractor just spread over some stone chips and red earth thinly and carried out black-topping.
This has resulted in wearing out of the newly constructed road within few days of black-topping, Gopeshwor alleged, adding that stone boulders that were placed as speed breakers with thinly spread tar mortar has also posed danger on the lives of the people.
He further alleged that black topping was supposed to have been carried out covering 10 feet along the width of the road.
But this has not been maintained at some portions.
