JNMDA Vice-Chairman and Director meet Governor

Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Vice-Chairman Prof N Tombi along with its Director L Upendro Sharma met Governor VK Duggal, who is the Chairman of the Academy, on January 10 .
L Upendro Sharma briefed the functioning and activities of the Academy to the new Chairman in the light of the forthcoming Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the Academy to be held in April this year, said a press release.
The Governor advised them to organise the celebration in a befitting manner and gave his best wishes to JNMDA artistes who are travelling to Myanmar to present Manipuri dance and music from January 17 to 19, added the press release.
It further said that a 22-member cultural troupe of the Academy led by L Upendro Sharma will be leaving Imphal for Myanmar on January 15 to participate in the Manipuri Cultural Festival organised by Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Indian Embassy with support from Myanmar Government.
The troupe will present Maharas at Manipur Basti of Mandalay on January 17 .
The team will present traditional Manipuri dance and music at National Theatre, Mandalay on January 18 and Mya Sandar Hall, Monywa on January 19 .
It may be mentioned that this is JNMDA's third visit to Myanmar since its inception.
Troupes of the Academy had visited the neighbouring country in 1964 and 1995 .
Meanwhile, a five-member cultural troupe of the Academy led by Production Unit in-charge W Lokendrajit left Imphal for participation in the Sharangdev Samaroh today.
The festival will be organised by Mahagami in Aurangabad (Maharashtra) on January 17 .
The troupe will present Pung Cholom, Dhol Dhollok Cholom at the festival.
W Lokendrajit will deliver a lecture cum demonstration on Tal and rhythm of Nat Sankirtana at the festival sponsored by Sangeet Natak Akademi, added the press release.
