Kangpokpi, April 10 2015 :
Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union, Regional Campus, Manipur today submitted a memoran-dum to Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam through Deputy Commissioner, Senapati for immediate removal of Additional SP, Kangpokpi.
The memorandum, signed by K Bowang Kho and ST Lelen Vaiphei, president and general secretary of the students' union, was submitted to Jacintha Lazarus, Deputy Commissioner, Senapati to be forwarded to the Deputy CM today.
The memorandum alleged that on April 6 when the students of IGNTU-RCM visited the main campus at Makhan as part of their ongoing agitation under the banner, "Save IGNTU-RCM", Additional SP of Kangpokpi Md Zakiruddin, decked in civil attire, physically assaulted the finance secretary and information secretary of the union without giving any valid reason or interrogating them as protocol.
It further alleged that the Additional SP also made offensive and insulting remarks against the students.
The memorandum quoted the Additional SP as saying, "What can the tribal students do? Give me the memo, I will solve everything!" .
Such derogatory remark is against the whole tribal student community and the tribal people in general, the Union leaders stated in the memorandum.
While there is an urgent need to have honest and uncorrupted enforcement officer there is also a need to have estimable officers which is definitely missing in Md Zakiruddin, it added.
Meanwhile, in connection with the incident, Kuki Students' Organization (GHqs) and Senapati District Students' Association held a joint meeting today at Senapati.
The joint meeting which was also participated by KSO, Sadar Hills strongly condemned the "malevolent manner" of the Additional SP, Kangpokpi towards the student leaders of IGNTU-RCM.
