Lamka, March 11, 2010:
In connection with the obser- vance of World Kidney Day, a free health camp for detection of Kidney diseases in patients suffering from diabetes and hypertension was held at the Jubilee Hall of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) here today.
The theme of the World Kidney Day this year is ‘Protect your kidneys, control diabetes'.
The camp was organised by the Section of Nephrology, RIMS.
In all 348 patients were tested for blood sugar, serum creatinine and urine microalbumin during the camp.
Out of these 348 patients, 61 of them (18 percent) were found to have microalbu-minuria which is an indication of early involvement of the kidneys, according to a statement issued by Head of Nephrology Department, RIMS Dr N Sharat Kumar Singh.
Kidney disease is becoming a global problem.
Kidney diseases may be common and dangerous but they are preventable.
Diabetes and high blood pressure are the main causes of Kidney failure.
So early detection of Kidney involvement in patients of diabetes and hypertension can prevent serious damage to the kidneys.
