Imphal, March 11, 2010:
Employees of JN Hospital today stormed the Porompat Police Station to protest arrest of their 12 colleagues inclu-ding two lab technician by the police.
The 12 employees have been reportedly arrested while staging a Wakat Mee-pham inside the Hospital campus from 10 am today in support of the cease work strike being launched under the aegis of JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO over the demand for implementing re- commendations of the Central 6th Pay Commission in toto.
The protest demonstration was organised by the Non-Gazetted Employees Welfare Association of JN Hospital.
After forcing their way into the gate of the police station, the agitated employees squatted inside the campus and demanded unconditional release of their arrested colleague.
The agitated employees were, how- ever, later forced to disperse and the 12 arrested taken into police custody.
Later talking to media-persons, a representative of the Non-Gazetted Employees Welfare Association strongly condemned the police action and warned of taking recourse to various intense agitations if the arrested colleagues were not release unconditionally.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by publicity secretary of Manipur Electricity Employees' Union S Dwi-jamani, while endorsing the demand of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO, has decried the threat of Chief Minister to initiate legal action against the staff of JN Hospital on alleged charge of disrupting the services of OPD and Casualty.
The Union also announ-ced its unflinching support to the ongoing agitation.
On the other hand, a statement of the JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO has decried the indifferent attitude of the Government to the rightful demands of the employees even after completion of 55 days of cease work strike.
Describing the arrest of 12 staff of JN Hospital by the police as un- fortunate, the JAC has also categorically stated that the Government should be responsible for any even- tuality of the intensified stir to be launched.
