A total of 279 complaints mostly the FIRs from the public, government departments and sources were received for the year 2008-09 in Manipur.
It was listed in the annual report of Vigilance Commission, 2009 which was tabled in the House on the concluding day of the seventh session of the ninth Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The four day seventh session of the ninth Manipur Legislative assembly concluded on Thursday.
The annual report mentioned that a total of 73 enquiry cases were disposed off during the year 2009 out of which 58 cases were closed due to the non confirmation of the charges,11 enquiry cases were recommended for major and minor penalties and 4 enquiry cases were converted into FIR where four officials were involved in the year 2009. Besides, 14 FIR cases were being charge sheeted and 206 complaints were reportedly pending for disposal for March 31, 2009. A total of 179 home guards have been recommended to be eliminated from their services on having detected gross irregularities in their appointments by the Vigilance Commission.
In addition, the commission also recommended major penalty to the then CO (home guard/valley) Manipur and taking up appropriate action against 12 home guard commanders, as stated in the annual report.
The annual report of Vigilance Commission stated that under a high powered committee, government of Manipur, a total amount of Rs.19, 54, 04,250/- were decided to recover which was generated from 453 unauthorized works in the year 2009.
