The Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has expressed serious concern over the felling of pinewood trees by a senior IPS officer on the premises of 9th Manipur Rifles camp at Taphou in Senapati District and condemned it.
A press release issued by the president of SDSA, A Pofkrehrh Khrasi stated that the unjustified and insensible act of destroying Public property like felling of tress by a respected Officer is condemnable at the highest degree.
Moreover, much to the dismay of the general public, the whole felling of tress were executed only for individually vested household purposes.
The said Pinewoods were laboriously planted by some past Police Officers who's intention was to not only beautified the area but also promote environmental serenity in the welfare of the People.
Notably, some of the Police Officers and many Manipur Riflemen and Others contributed much to the plantation of those trees during their respective posting in Senapati District in the past years.
With a long term vision to protect and conserve the much depleted environment, their contribution towards the District, ightly fits the relevant issue of tackling Climate Change.
The SDSA while condemning the said act of destroying and violating the norms and Traditional Land Laws, demand before the concerned department to inquire into the matter at the earliest, failing which the SDSA will take its own course of action in a befitting manner, the SDSA said.
