Finally, Union Home Minister set to arrive

Imphal, May 25 2023: Finally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah would be visiting the State on May 29, almost 26 days after the eruption of an extensive ethnic violence.

Ahead of Amit Shah's scheduled visit, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai arrived here today.

Briefing media persons at the Darbar Hall of the Chief Minister's Secretariat this afternoon, Nityanand Rai said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah would stay at Imphal from May 29 to June 1 and he (Amit Shah) would work to end the ethnic crisis and deliver justice to all the people.

There was calm and peace in Manipur during the last nine years and there was little bandh or blockade, Nityanand Rai said.

The recent incident has not only created unrest but also impeded development.

Amit Shah would stay here for four days and resolve all these issues, the Union MoS (Home) said.

He also showed a video message given by Amit Shah to the people of Manipur on his mobile phone.

In his message, Amit Shah said that he would be staying in Manipur for three days in order to end the unrest seen in the State following a Court verdict.

"Put faith in us.

We will deliver justice to all the people", Amit Shah said.

However, Nityanand Rai could not give any convincing reply to several queries put up by media persons.

One reporter pointed out that the particular Court verdict was not solely responsible for the ethnic violence but it has deep connection with the Biren Govt's War on Drugs, eviction of encroachers from reserved forests/protected forests and the process of identification of illegal immigrants.

To this, Nityanand Rai said that all the problems and issues should be resolved in a peaceful manner.

There is no place for violence in today's world.

People should have faith in the Government and shun all forms of violence, he said.

To another query, the Union MoS (Home) asserted that any activity that defies law would not be tolerated. "We would talk with the people at different places and listen to their views and opinions", he said .

BJP Manipur in-charge and National spokesman Dr Sambit Patra, Education Minister Th Basantakumar and Transport Minister Khashim Vashum were also present at the press meet.
