Row between SFs, scribes resolved

Imphal, May 25 2023:
A joint meeting between All Mani-pur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM), Manipur Hills Journalists' Union (MHJU), offi-cial representatives of Assam Rifles and Jat Regiment at Manipur Press Club on Thursday has resolved to lift the proposed ban on press releases of AR and central security forces.
In a release jointly issued by presidents of AMWJU, EGM and MJHU, the decision to lift the ban on statements issued by the AR and central forces was taken following assurance and commitment by the IGAR (South) PRO on behalf of the central forces that no unwanted incidents detrimental to interest of media persons and discharge of their duty will recur in the future.
The PRO also informed that a media liaison office will be operationalised at the M Sector, Kanglapat Road to facilitate the media persons directly contact in case of any confrontation.
Jat Regiment officer also in-teracted with the scribes who were assaulted during the May 22 incident at New Lambulane, regretted the incident and disclosed that necessary action has been processed against the personnel involved in the incident.
In light of the following development it was decided to roll back the earlier move to ban public of statements of the central security forc-es, the release added.
