Imphal, May 25 2023:
Maintaining that the present situation in the state is an outcome of the public losing trust in the BJP government, CPI Central Committee member Dr M Nara asked where the double engine government of BJP has gone.
Addressing a press meet at Irawat Bhawan here on Thursday, Dr Nara said that the pub-lic are suspicious of a hidden agenda of BJP behind the present cri-sis.
Union home minister Amit Shah, who rushed to Mizoram, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya whenever there is crisis in those states, has been side-lining Manipur even though he is visiting Assam for the party's programme, he said.
Dr Nara also questioned the outcome of the meeting with state government leaders, who were taken to the national capital on a chartered flight.
Dr Nara said that pro-tection of public lives and properties is the responsibility of a gov-ernment but the state government as well as its ministers and MLAs have gone missing in the situation.
There is also a clear disconnect between the government and the ruling party.
Even after 20 days since the vio-lence broke out, no sig-nificant measures and management for relief works could be seen as almost all of the relief camps are run through contribution made by the general public.
There is no clear policy of the government to control the situation and restore peace, he said.
He also informed that CPI national executive meeting held in Delhi from May 18 to 20 made strong observation on the present crisis in the state and adopted res-olutions to demand the Central government for early restoration of peace.
So far, around 73 lives have been lost and many are still missing.
The crisis cannot be seen as a crisis between two communities since it is affecting all the commu-nities living in the state.
There are multiple faults on the part of the state government including deferment of ADC elec-tions.
The government has descended to the level of an administra-tion run by a handful of people.
CPI had demand-ed an all-party meeting to address the looming crisis about three months ago but BJP called the meeting only after the May 3 violence broke out.
Unfortunately, no actions or initiatives have been taken up to imple-ment the resolutions adopted in the all-par-ty meet, he said while asking the government to stand by the public aspiration of unity and integrity of the state.
CPI Manipur State Council secretary L Thoiren demanded the government to restore Internet connectivity since it is not the solution to the crisis.
He also de-manded the government to set up rehabilitation centres for the displaced people and provide ad-equate compensation at the earliest.
