Imphal, May 25 2023:
Stating that he will take the lead in protecting residents and properties in the foothill villages if the govern-ment approves, Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam has sought approval of the government to station five MLAs each in the foothill villages.
He made the statement while distributing Press jacket to staff members of All India Radio (AIR) Regional News Unit (RNU) Imphal on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, the MLA noted that reporting the facts to the public, especially in times of crisis is the duty of media persons and it is unfortunate that security forces deployed to protect lives and public properties assaulted media persons covering the May 22 incident.
Maintaining that the vio-lence went out of control due to lack of control measures from the government, he said that the government should not let the violence continue and it will require a dialogue to bring solutions.
He also appealed to community lead-ers to exercise restraint.
It is unfortunate that the violence is still continuing even after 22 days since it broke out.
The continuing violence is the result of armed militants carrying out attacks and arson on civilians and their proper-ties.
Unfortunately, the huge presence of central security forces has not been able to control the armed militants till date, he said.
He then suggested the gov-ernment to deploy five MIAs each in Dolaithabi, Singda and Torbung Bangla areas for protection of the civilians.
It would not be a tough task to control violence carried out by a handful of armed militants, he said while urging the gov-ernment for an early solution by controlling the violence.
AIR Imphal programme head A Gitchandra, pro-gramme executive Tokeshori Elangbam and news editor J.1 Thokchom were also present on the occasion.
