Kangpokpi, May 25 2023:
As the sit-in pro-test continued in Kangpokpi district seeking central gov-ernment's intervention, Kuki protestors demanded the cen-tral government to remove N Biren Singh from the post of Chief Minister of Manipur.
The sit-in protest organised by the Committee on Trib-als Unity, Sadar Hills kicked off on May 22 at Kangpokpi District Headquarters, seek-ing centre's intervention to address the problems of the Kukis with a solution based on the political dialogue be-tween United People's Front (UPF), and Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the governments.
Protestors at the Motbung Model village sit-in on Thurs-day demanded the central government to immediately remove Biren from the post of CM.
Committee secretary L Singsit said that the wide-spread communal violence that erupted under the lead-ership of N Biren is not only unfortunate but also an un-pardonable crime.
He said that the Kukis in particular and the tribals, in general, are surprised as to why the central government is still not taking any action against CM Biren.
"It is no wonder that CM N Biren Singh failed to con-trol the violent situation in Manipur as he himself is the instigator of the unpardonable crime," he alleged.
An internally displaced scholar from Manipur Uni-versity who participated in the sit-in protest recalled that none of MU's authority and security even attempted to save them when the university was attacked by a mob on May 3 evening.
She said that all our doc-uments were burnt down by the mob.
"Through the blood and sweat of our parents who worked hard for years, who toiled hard day and night un-der the scorching heat, we had earned such documents," she added.
She then wondered : "How are we going to be secure about going back to the uni-versity when Manipur Uni-versity Authority and the state government failed to protect us?" .
While urging the central government to initiate mea-sures for the thousands of scholars and students of Ma-nipur University, the young woman scholar urged CM Biren to "step down" from the CM post as he failed to safeguard them.
Meanwhile, Commit-tee spokesperson K Sitlhou wondered why the central government is still not pay-ing attention to the cry of the people who fought for the freedom of India against the mighty British.
He then urged the central government to intervene and see what is really going on in the state of Manipur and to initiate peace only after providing a solution to the problems of the Kukis.
"Address our problems to a certain level with a solution, then we will happily accept peace," he added.
