Imphal, May 25 2023:
Manipur Democratic Alliance (MDA) leaders met Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday and submitted a memorandum demanding NRC update and protection of the state's territorial integrity.
MDA chairman Bijoy Koijam, while interacting with media after submitting the memo-randum, said they will submit the same memorandum to the MoS home and security advisor Kuldiep Singh.
He said that confining Kuki militants under So0 in their respective desig-nated camps can help control the situation and restore peace.
He also demanded the reason for allowing participation of militants with AK 47 in the May 3 peace rally.
MDA also condemns state-ment of Mizoram CM, he said and added that CM Biren was called anti-Kuki simply for his crackdown on drugs, ille-gal poppy cultivation, illegal immigrants and protection of reserved and protected forest areas.
The present crisis smacks of a hidden agenda.
Those who want integration with Mizoram can go and live there but they cannot take the state's terri-tory, he said.
Bijoy Koijam also observed absence of harmony between the central and state forces as well as the opposition and rul-ing parties, which need to be addressed.
He also criticised the absence of central leaders amid the crisis and demanded im-mediate measures to hold talks with stakeholders concerned in order to restore peace.
MDA convenor M Tombi welcomed the peace initia-tive taken up by other some communities, who are not involved in the crisis, and also condemned the assault on media and fire fighters by central security forces.
He said that he will meet Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Sindhe on Friday and file a complaint to the union home minister against the army personnel.
