Imphal, May 25 2023:
Socio-political com-mentator Ch Bijoy has asked the chief minister to resign even if it is for a brief period if it will restore peace and protect the integrity of the state.
Speaking to the media at his residence on Thursday, the former BJP leader said that the present crisis has threatened the territorial integrity and unity of the state but there is no solution in sight.
The way forward should be peace talks be-tween the two groups and if the CM is the roadblock in restoring peace, he should step aside even if it is for a brief period in order to re-store peace and normalcy, he said.
Speaking on the blame game doing the round amid the crisis, Bijoy said that the truth will come out through a high power enquiry commit-tee.
The crisis is not only af-fecting the two communities but also others as well.
The situation will take an even uglier turn if the limit of tol-erance is crossed, he opined and remarked that bringing in additional forces is meant only for controlling the vi-olence but not for solution.
Commenting on the in-ternet shutdown, he said banning the internet only affects people of the state in various ways.
Despite the shutdown, thegovernment cannot control circulation of rumour on social media since people from outside the state are feeding unverified information, he pointed out.
Bijoy also questioned the person in control for overall law and order situation in the state at present though chief minister is the chairman of unified command.
Assam Ri-fles, CRPF and RAF are under the control of home ministry while Indian Army's units like Sikh, lat and UP regi-ment are under the defence ministry.
There seems to be lapses of communication between the two forces as there are complaints from different sections of the pub-lic, he said.
Bijoy also opined that the reaction by BJP Manipur Pradesh against the state-ment of Mizoram BJP sup-porting the separate admin-istration demand is irrational as the appropriate measure on the issue would be to expel the seven BJP MLAs, who signed the demand for sep-arate administration, from the state BJP membership.
