Imphal, May 25 2023:
Forum for Resto-ration of Peace, Manipur has urged Governor Anusuiya Uikey to take them into confidence and expedite the process for restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
In a letter sent to the Governor, Forum's con-vener Ashang Kasar and co-convener Syed Siraj Ahmad pointed out that the prevailing situation could go beyond the normal spec-ulation if is not contained in the right perspective.
It is evident from inci-dents of the past that, in times of such situation in the multi-ethnic state, use of military and police forces alone would not be able to contain the situa-tion without winning the exasperated sentiments of the afflicted parties.

In such a given situation the popular slogan like 'past is past, let us forgive and forget' will not materialise without me-ticulous sensitisation by all concerned, it noted.
The Forum said, "It would be most appropriate at this crucial juncture, if the Gov-ernor physically reaches out to the afflicted parties through the civil society or-ganisations and mend ways for bringing normalcy over the prevailing situation in Manipur." "On the other hand, the Governor may rest assured that the prevailing situation could only be normalised when the state authority seeks the cooperation of the public forums and civil organisations," it stressed.
The Forum maintained that to support the public au-thority in ushering peace and normalcy, it has decid-ed to facilitate negotiation between the communities in conflict as it is the only way forward for bringing peace and normalcy in Manipur.
