KIYC: Manipur celebrate golden double in sepaktakraw; two medals in cycling

Manipur asserted their sporting prowess at the Khelo India Youth Games on Tuesday with a spectacular double gold medal haul in Sepaktakraw, headlining an impressive day of competition for the northeastern state.
The third day of the Games also saw the state secure two medals in track cycling.
The Manipuri girls' Sepaktakraw team delivered a commanding performance, sweeping aside Kerala 2-0 in straight sets to claim the gold medal.

Their male counterparts followed suit in a hard-fought final against Bihar, eventually prevailing 2-1 in a tense encounter that had spectators on the edge of their seats.
On the cycling track, Manipur's pedal power came to the fore as the trio of Th Gyananta Singh, H Suraj Singh and K Lanchenba powered their way to silver in the team sprint.
The state trio clocked a combined time of 00:50.156, averaging an impressive 53.8 km/h .
However, they were narrowly pipped to gold by Jharkhand's team of Nikhil Lohra, Bikash Oraon and Arjun Kumar, who finished in 00:48.868 .
The podium was completed by Andaman & Nicobar's team, comprising Michael, Ronie.
Mylsap and Chamberline, who claimed bronze with a time of 00:50.471 .
Gyananta Singh added to his medal collection later in the day, securing bronze in the gruelling 10km scratch race.
The gold medal went to Maharashtra's Siddhesh Ghorpade (13:26.584), while Rajasthan's Mahaveer Saran (13.26.601) took silver.

The state's volleyball contingent continued their strong form, overcoming West Bengal 3-1 (25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-12) in a pulsating quarter-final clash.
The victory sets up an enticing semi-final matchup as Manipur chases another podium finish.
In the swimming pool, S Athouba made waves by qualifying for the 4x100m individual medley final, though narrowly missing out on a medal in a fiercely competitive field.
The young swimmer's progression to the final marks another positive step for Manipur's aquatic sports development.
Table tennis player Segal Singh endured a difficult start to his campaign, falling 4-11 to Maharashtra's Priyanuj Bhattacharya in his opening group match.
However, the experience against higher-ranked opposition promises to benefit the young paddler's long-term development.
