Imphal, July 18 2024:
Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur has won a case related to recognition of Sqay Federation of India (SFI) as a Regional Sports Federation (RSF) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
The Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association moved Manipur High Court against the recognition of Sqay Federation of India (SFI) as a Regional Sports Federation (RSF) by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports.
The Sqay Federation of India (SFI) was founded by one Dagi Nazir Ahmad Mir, Thang-Ta student/instructor from J&K, who allegedly copied Thang-Ta martial art to create a Sqay martial art form and obtained recognition of SFI as a RSF from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports by providing a fake certificate.
The court ruled that "...since the recognition given to the respondent No 4 as a Regional Sports Federation has been withdrawn, the respondent No 4 cannot organize any national level sports competitive meets any longer" .
Notably, the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports withdrew the recognition of the Sqay Federation of India (SFI) as a Regional Sports Federation (RSF) in an order on September 5, 2023, on receiving a complaint.
This recognition was accorded in 2015 for the promotion and development of the Sqay sport.
