Ibetombi badminton tourney heats up with Day 2 full of action

The second day of the 2nd Thongam Ibetombi Devi Memorial Non-State Players' Badminton Championships 2025 saw fierce competition across multiple age categories and events.
In the boys' singles U-9, Otham Sailesh Singh delivered a commanding performance, defeating Horchithei Mulnao with a score of 21-15, 21-7.Meanwhile, Narjit Khundrakpam secured a decisive victory over Punshiba Thongam (21-3, 21-4) .
The girls' singles U-9 final saw Yambem Dency triumph over Samaya Gupta in straight sets (21-2, 21-5) .
The U-17 matches were equally intense.
Otham Mangal Singh overpowered Mayanglambam Khilan (21-15,21-3), while Mohrangthem Kelvin Singh edged out Shut Kumar Pal in a closely contested match (21-11, 21-16) .
A nail-biting three-setter unfolded between RK Bidyamanda Singh and Jason Naxrem, with Bidyamanda clinching the win (13-21, 21-15, 21-15) .
In the U-19 category, Sanaren Athokpam secured a solid win against Somorendro Mutum (21-12, 21-17), while Lourembam Henthiosana Singh fought back from a set down to defeat Lah Lunii (18-21,21-13,21-18) .
The men's singles 35+ category featured dramatic comebacks.
Ngangbam Chandrasekhar recovered from a first-set loss to defeat Longjam Premjit (16-21, 21-12, 21-10), and M Joy staged a thrilling turnaround against Laisha-ram Baran Singh (16-21, 22-20, 21-17) .
The doubles matches brought high-energy performances.
In the boys' doubles U-13, Bashililo Thongamba and Irabanta Chungkham dominated their opponents with a crushing 21-5, 21-3 victory.
Meanwhile, Chinglenka Vunnam and Vian Angom battled through three sets to secure their win (21-16, 13-21, 21-13) .
The men's doubles 35+ saw Salam Rajnat Singh and Saraj Khundrakpam cruise past their rivals (21-8, 21-11), while Paonam Rakesh Singh and S Troithol delivered a strong performance (21-6, 21-10) .
In the men's singles 45+ quarterfinals, Varmi and Laikharam Thamas Meitei advanced with confident wins, setting up an exciting semifinal lineup.
The men's doubles 55+ finalists were also decided, with Rk Dhakasana Singh and Thokchom Balezhwor Singh securing their spot.
