Imphal, April 28 2026:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the MNCA Indoor Cricket Academy at Luwangsangbam virtually from Sikkim in the presence of ICC chairman Jay Shah, BCCI president Mithun Manhas, Devajit Saikia, secretary BCCI among others.
The indoor training facility of the Manipur Cricket Association (MNCA) was among six academies launched simultaneously across Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland.
The academy located at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium has been developed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India as part of its initiative to strengthen cricket infrastructure in the North East.
The academy features modem training amenities, including indoor nets, a fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pool and supporting infrastructure aimed at enhancing player development.
The facility will enable year-round training to State players who face limited outdoor practice opportunities owing to prolonged and uncertain monsoon conditions.
Speaking on the sidelines, MNCA secretary Lairenjam Geetranjan Singh said it was a historic day for Six North East States to have such world-class indoor cricket academies inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
He also thanked ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who initiated the project.
The academies will change the cricket scenario in all six NE States and be especially helpful for rainy Manipur where outdoor camps are disrupted frequently.
Coaching and skill activities can now continue regardless of rain, he said.
In another good news to MNCA and cricket enthusiasts, the BCCI will bear all maintenance and expenditure for the next 2 years across all six states, he said.
He also took note of achievements and historic performances of Manipur Cricket Association in the recent years without featuring any guest players.
He also exuded confidence that the new indoor facility will help Manipur boys and girls excel further.
