MOA Workshop dissects "National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and Manipur Sports Development Code 2024"

The Manipur Olympic Association today hosted a workshop on "National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and Manipur Sports Development Code 2024" at Olympic Bhavan, Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal.
The workshop was attended by S Lokeshwar, retd HOD, History Department, Manipur College and former vice president, Manipur Olympic Association; RK Ranendrajit, convenor, Sports Movement Committee, Manipur; Dr RK Nimai, retd IAS and Sunil Elangbam, president Manipur Olympic Association (MOA) as presidium members.
The workshop not only dissected the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and Manipur Sports Development Code 2024 but also discussed the shortcomings of the State Sports code before drawing many recommendations to make it better.
Speaking at the occasion, S Lokeshwar said that Manipur has a long history of adopting time to time measures for the promotion of sports in the State and most recent came in the form of Manipur Sports Development Code 2024 in September last year before the landmark legislation National Sports Governance Act, 2025 came into being last month.
Maintaining that Manipur has also introduced its "Sports Policy" long back, he called upon the Manipur Olympic Association to play a key role setting up good relations with other counterpart associations in other States.
He also opined that State sports associations must be reinforced to make the Manipur Olympic Association more robust and prominent.
Expressing the evils of factionalism among sports associations, he also called upon the Manipur Olympic Association to actively engage in enforcing National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and the sports code.
Moderating the workshop, RK Nimai also highlighted the importance of a renewed sports movement and optimal utilization of district sports complexes in the State.
Despite the presence of many sports complexes, there is decline in the emergence of quality players, he said while also stressing on tapping more talents and assuring better coaches and equipment.
A careful strategy to mark out the shortages of coaches and equipment is a must to deal with the issue, he added.
The workshop would also recommend the State Government to focus on talent tapping talents from grassroots level, giving proper foundational training in the right time to produce more eminent sports personalities, he said.
Stressing on the need for timely intervention and corrective measures in the Manipur Sports Development Code, RK Nimai also dwelled on the likely impact on the State's sports scenario with the implementation of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and a proper planning to make best use of the act in the State.
Speaking at the occasion, MOA president Sunil Elangbam stressed on the need of a more transparent and a concordant approach to facilitate better sports infrastructure to the State players.
Earlier in the inaugural address, MOA vice president GA Sanatomba Sharma said that the aim of the workshop was to make the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 and Manipur Sports Development Code 2024 more common among the general public and help State Associations and athletes to make the best use of the code and the act.
MOA joint secretary, Ningthoukhongjam Ibungochoubi; Prof at DM University Physical Education and Sports Science, RK Chandrakumar; Asst Prof at National Sports University, S Premananda; Visiting Faculty to NSU Dept of Sports, Dr K Kosana and Dronacharya Awardee boxing coach L Ibomcha also spoke as resource persons during the programme which wa also attended by various eminent sports personalities O Bembem and present and former Government officials.
