The Football Veteran Welfare Association (FVWA), Pologround clinched the 12th Challenge Cup Veteran Football Tournament 2010 after defeating UMO, Yairipok 2-0 in the final match played today at Mapal Kangjeibung, Imphal.
Both teams displayed real tough fight against one another throughout the match.
FVWA drew the first blood in the 39th minute of the match through its player Rajen Khanganba in the 36th minute of the match.
With one goal ahead of them, UMO tried their best to equalise the score.
But they found it impossible to equalise the score throughout the match.
Meanwhile, the second goal of FVWA was scored by B Sanahal in the 60+2nd minute of the match.
Works Minister, K Ranjit graced the closing function as chief guest.
Education Minister, L Jayantakumar was the functional president.
Deputy Chairman, Manipur State Planning Board and also the President of Manipur Olympic Association, MLA Bijoy Koijam and MLA Th Nandakishore also attended the function as guests of honour.
Winner FVWA was awarded a cash prize of Rs 20,000 along with the trophy.
Runners up team UMO was also awarded Rs 10,000 cash prize along with the trophy.
Semi finalists were also awarded a cash Prize of Rs 2000 each.
T Brajabidhu, custodian of FVWA was honoured with the Oldest Player's title.
M Devananda of VSAI, Thangmeiband was declared the first goal scorer of the tournament.
Rajen Khanganba of FVWA was awarded the firstg scorer of the final match.
Y Ranjit of FVWA was adjusted best goalkeeper's title which carries a cash prize of Rs 1000 along a trophy.
Rajkumar of FVWA was declared best Defender and was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1000 along with a trophy.
Rajen Khanganba of FVWA was awarded the title of Best Player which carries a cash prize of Rs 1000 along with a trophy.
XI-Star was declared the winner of the Fair Play Trophy.
The title carries a cash prize of Rs 2000 and a rolling trophy.
