A youth was hurt when unidentified armed persons opened fire and exploded a bomb at an oil pump in Hiyangthang area under Imphal West district police.
The incident occurred at Mayai Lambi Service Station around 11.30 pm yesterday.
The injured youth identified as Sadokpam Dhruva (25) s/o Shyamkishore of Mongsangei Mamang Leikai is working in the oil pump.
Dhruva sustained bullet injuries on his left side stomach and thigh.
He is currently undergoing treatment at Raj Polyclinic.
According to information culled from the site of the incident, Dhruva and two other staff identified as Herojit and Baite were on night duty at the service station when three unidentified armed persons came and woke them up.
Dhruva and Herojit went out to meet the armed intruders who wanted to know where the petrol tanks are located.
When the two staff demanded to know why they wanted to know the location of the tanks, the armed intruders replied that they wanted to set off a bomb.
On hearing this, the two staff pleaded against such destructive action, but instead of listening to their pleas, one of the armed intruders opened fire at one of the oil tank.
Luckily, the tank happened to be an empty one.
Later on, the armed intruders turned toward Dhruva and opened fire.
The armed intruders also lobbed one Chinese hand grenade, but it did not explode.
Police have retrieved the unexploded grenade.
