7th Khelo India Youth Games : Radhamani, H Shanker clinch gold in boxing and tennis as Manipur sweep 7 medals in Thang-Ta

Manipur amassed as many as 9 medals including 5 gold on Day 11 of the 7th Khelo India Youth Games being hosted by Bihar in 6 different cities to seal 9th position in the medal tally on 25 medals including 11 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals.
A bulk of 7 medals came from indigenous martial artform Thang-Ta, greatly boosting State's position today.
Men's Thang-Ta team collected 2 gold and 2 bronze medals to claim the champions title while Assam finished runners up with 2 gold medals.
Meanwhile, State women's team finished runners up with 1 gold and 2 silver medals as hosts Bihar sealed the champions title with 2 gold and 1 bronze medals.
Although, Yumnam Malemnganba (-56 kg) and Yumnam Thoiba (-60 kg) settled for the bronze medals in Phunaba Ama event, Thokchom Srinivas (-56 kg) and Kongjengbam Pareihanba (-60 kg) produced impressive performances to seal gold medals in the Phunaba Anishuba event to put Manipur on top.
Meanwhile, Irom Anamika (-52 kg) and Lourembam Daina (-56 kg) suffered final defeats in the Phunaba Ama event for women to their Bihar rival Priya Prema and Madhya Pradesh rival Anjali Rawat respectively to finish with silver medals.
Thangjam Lernbisana however defeated Th Renuka of Assam to seal the -52 kg category gold medal in the Phunaba Anishuba event as Mahika Kumari beat Memola Devi of Assam in the -56 kg category final to go top in the women's section.
H Shanker wins historic gold in Tennis
The day also saw Heisnam Shanker scripting history by becoming the first State tennis player to win a gold medal in the Khelo India Youth Games.
Having delivered dominating performances in the earlier round, H Shanker carried forward his momentum to beat Arjun Rathi of Haryana 6-2, 6-1 in the final today to earn the top honour.
Shanker had earlier defeated Mizoram opponent 6-0, 6-2 in the opening round before beating Hitesh Chauhan of Punjab 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinal and a 3-6, 7-6, 3-0 (retd) win against Gujarat's Samarth Ujaval Sahita in the semi-finals.
Radhamani bags boxing gold
Longjam Radhamani also won Manipur a gold medal in the boxing competition today to swell State's gold medal haul in the games.
Radhamani sealed a 3-2 split decision win in the women's 57 kg category final bout against Punjab's Muskan today to win the only gold medal for Manipur in boxing.
Yesterday, Radhamani registered a 4-1 split decision victory against Gouri Goswami of Delhi to book her final ticket.
Radhamani had defeated Babita of Uttarakhand in the first round and Haryana's Aiju in the quarterfinal bout earlier in the competition.
