S Thambal Sharma adjudged best male athlete at 23rd Asia Masters Athletics C'ships after 5-medal feat

Manipur's S Thambal Sharma, who clinched 4 gold and 1 silver medal for India, was adjudged the best male athlete at the 23rd Asia Masters Athletics Championships that concluded yesterday in Chennai.
In the championship that was hosted by India under the aegis of Asia Masters Athletics from November 5-9, S Thambal Sharma picked gold medals in the 65+ men's 100 m race, pole vault, high jump, and 4x100 m relay race and a silver medal in the 200 m race.
On the last day of the championships, Thambal Sharma clinched the pole vault gold medal with a 2.70 m finish and the 4x100 m relay gold with a time of 55 seconds 62 milliseconds.

Kh Manichand meanwhile claimed three gold medalsone apiece in the 300 m hurdles (1 min 4.6 seconds), 100 m race (15.14 seconds), and 4x100 m relay (1:13.74) and a silver medal in 80 m hurdles (16.70 sec) for 75+ men.
L Bembem also won a gold medal in the women's 45+ 2000 m steeplechase with a time of 9 minutes 42.71 seconds while Th Akasini bagged two gold medals in the women's 75+ category 2000 m steeplechase (13 minutes 63.41 seconds) and 10000 m race (1 hour 16.51 seconds).
L Pramodini also secured a gold medal in the long jump event for women's above 80 years with a leap of 1.42 m as RK Joykumar won a gold medal in the hammer throw event for 85+ men (21.04 m) and a bronze medal in the discus throw event (16.79 m).
L Bhubon also contributed a gold medal in India's tally with a time of 38.78 seconds in the 80+ men's 200 m hurdles as W Subita bagged a gold medal in the 10000 m race for women's above 70 years by taking 1 hour 7.33 seconds.
S Kunjeshwor meanwhile earned a gold medal in the javelin throw event for men's above 65 years by posting a throw of 44.77 m while Th Radhesana managed 2 silver medals - one each in the 45+ long jump event (4.21 m) and 400 m hurdles (1 min 24.13 sec), and a gold medal in the 4x100 m relay race (1 minute 3.71 seconds) .
K Shyama Devi (70+ women's 4x100 m relay gold: 1:13.22 and Long jump: 3.48 m), Th Memcha Devi (60+ women's 4x100 m relay gold: 1:8.67 and 300 m hurdles bronze 1:03.37), Ch Thambalsang Devi (70+ women's 1500 m race silver : 8:5.81), S Manisana (65+ women's 300 m hurdles silver : 1: 22.42), W Thoiba (50+ men's pole vault: 2.40 m), A Isheihanbi Devi (70+ women's 200 m race bronze : 52.63 sec), S Manihar (80+ men's 10000 m race bronze : 1:17:61), S Memtombi (85+ women's Javelin throw bronze : 6.65 m) and L Ashakumar (4x 100 m race gold: 54.51 sec and 4x400 m relay bronze : 3:72.19) also bagged medals for India at the championships.
