Tangkhul meet stresses on preserving culture

Imphal, February 12, 2011:
MK Proso Shimray Senior Scientific Officer, Forest and Environment today urged Tangkhuls to preserve their culture and tradition.
Shimray was speaking as chief guest at the opening function of the 52nd general conference cum sports meet of the Kharao Khaorui Yairum Naga Students' Association (KKYNSA) at Hongmahn village in Ukhrul district.
Expressing concerned over the loss of moral character among the Tangkhuls, he said this is not a nature of a people following Christianity.
Shimray advised the youths to stay away from intoxicating items and indulging in immoral activities, and to act like human beings.
Speaking as special guest in the function, N Rajendro, president, Information Centre for Hill Area Manipur (ICHAM) observed that the spirit of co-existence seems to be alive in the hill areas.
Many Tangkhul leaders also spoke on the occasion which was marked by a presentation of a cultural dance.
