Imphal, May 24 2010:
Fishermen residing at the floating huts in the Loktak Lake today said that they will not leave their huts unless government takes up rehabilitation works for them.
Government with a view to preserve the Loktak lake has started taken up works for the clearance of the phumdis (floating biomass) from the lake areas including the atha phums planted by the fishermen and their huts.
In an interaction with reporters today Ningthoujam Rakhon, secretary of the All Loktak Floating Hut Dwellers Progressive Committee reiterated that fishing has been the main living earning ways of several hundreds of people in and around the Loktak Lake since the very early period of time.
