Imphal, January 28 2026:
The All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO), an apex Christian body representing all Christian denominations in the State, has stated that drug trafficking and poppy cultivation have emerged as major underlying factors contributing to arms smuggling, violence, and economic destabilization.
While these illicit activities may promise quick and unlawful financial gain, they ultimately destroy communities, corrupt moral values, and endanger the future of 'our younger generations,' AMCO said in a statement issued by its president Rev Simon Raomai.
AMCO warned that illegal drug economies may spread rapidly but will ultimately destroy the future of "our generations" .
"We pray that God may forbid every evil and destructive scheme that seeks to drag our land into darkness and ungodliness," it added.
Reiterating its commitment to peace, tranquility, harmony, and reconciliation in Manipur, AMCO said that it stands firmly against violence in all its forms.
"Rooted in the Christian faith and guided by Biblical principles of love, justice, and righteousness," AMCO appealed to all stakeholders to embrace peaceful and constructive means for the restoration of lasting peace in the State.
Saying that the ongoing ethnic crisis has inflicted irreparable loss upon innocent lives, with women, children, and vulnerable civilians bearing the heaviest burden, AMCO said that communities on all sides of the conflict continue to suffer immense hardship, exacerbated by political divisions and prolonged instability.
Thousands remain displaced, having lost their homes, livelihoods, and economic security, and continue to live in conditions of uncertainty and distress, it said and added that AMCO will continue to pray and work for peace, reconciliation, and the restoration of normalcy in Manipur.
It also called for a stable and responsible governance framework, while urging citizens to uphold lawful authority in the spirit of righteousness and Godliness.
"May Manipur once again become a land where justice, peace, and the fear of God prevail, and where all communities can coexist in dignity," it prayed.
