Dr Khundongbam Palin, Managing Director, SHRI flagged off the run organised by SHRI, Langol in collaboration with Traffic Control Police Wing, Imphal West and Team 195 BPM.
Speaking in this connection, Dr Kh Palin said that road traffic accidents are the leading cause of head injuries, accounting for approximately 60% of cases.
This is followed by falls from a significant height which make up a majority of the remaining head injury cases, he maintained.
In India, more than 10 lakh people suffer from head injuries annually, out of which approximately one lakh patients have a high chance of succumbing to their injuries.
Such injuries are most prevalent among people between the age group of 20 and 40 years.
Use of mobile phones while driving, unbuckled seat belts, rash driving, speeding etc are some of the main causes of head injuries, informed Dr Kh Palin.
He urged people to follow protocol and remain cautious to prevent such mishaps.
