Imphal, April 18 2026:
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has stated that today's fatal ambush along the Ukhrul road by Kuki narco-terrorists is a manifestation of the Government of India's execution of a proxy war.
In a press statement, COCOMI strongly condemned the ambush, which resulted in the deaths of two Tangkhul civilians.
COCOMI stated that Kuki narco-terrorists, operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement, have been waging a violent campaign against the indigenous people since May 3, 2023 .
These SoO groups have the support of the Government of India (GoI), it claimed.
Even as the situation continues to deteriorate and Kuki narco-terrorism becomes increasingly evident, the Chief Minister has been speaking of peace unconsciously, COCOMI charged.
It also claimed that the Central security forces, deployed in the State after May 3, 2023, have instead been protecting Kuki narcoterrorists, leaving the people vulnerable.
Saying that Meeteis have been confined to the valley districts for nearly three years, COCOMI added that Kuki narco-terrorists have now unleashed armed aggression in the hill districts to control strategic areas within their occupied territory.
It asserted that Kuki narco-terrorists have been unleashing a reign of terror on the Tangkhul people since February 7, 2026 .
COCOMI further claimed that the GoI has been carrying out a proxy war and conducting covert operations by allowing Kuki narco-terrorists to operate in most parts of Manipur.
Alleging that the State Government has been acting as an agent of the Gol to further the proxy war instead of safeguarding the people, the committee questioned how Kuki militants are able to launch attacks at will despite the large deployment of security personnel.
The Kuki narco-terrorists have been launching armed aggression for nearly three years against Meeteis, and today, they have also turned their attacks on the Tangkhuls, COCOMI stated and asked who is funding the Kuki narco-terrorists, and who is supplying ammunition to them.
The committee also stated that security forces haven't taken any meaningful action to eliminate the terror elements and control the situation.
COCOMI further charged that the conduct of the State Government is akin to cooperating with the Government of India in implementing a proxy war in the State.
Even as the people are left to fend for themselves, the Chief Minister has been engaging in theatrics by visiting hill districts and speaking of peace, COCOMI stated.
The Chief Minister has also been using words that sound insulting regarding the people's inability to move freely within the State, COCOMI said, urging him to stop misleading the public.
The committee asserted that the Chief Minister must take responsibility for the killings and the deteriorating situation if he continues to mislead the people.
