Imphal, January 14 2026:
Accusing the Government of India of being sympathetic toward the Kuki militant groups, the Haomee Youth Front (HYF) has urged the Government of India to work neutrally to bring lasting peace in the State.
In a statement issued by its general Kh Johnson, the Front stated that the influx of illegal immigrants into Manipur, their involvement in widespread deforestation for poppy cultivation in the hill districts, and their role in the drug trade have had a direct impact on the indigenous people.
It claimed that the Kuki armed groups, allegedly supported by the GoI, have been actively encouraging poppy cultivation.
Further claiming that the Kuki armed groups have also been working against the interests of the indigenous people, the HYF stated that these groups launched a violent campaign against the Meiteis on May 3, 2023.To prevent the rise of hegemony by Kuki armed groups in the hill districts, the indigenous people have begun launching a movement against them, opposing activities such as the 'illegal' construction of theGerman/Tiger Road, poppy plantations, and the establishment of SoO group camps, it added.
It asked whether a land called 'Kukiland' existed at the time of India's founding.
It was the Kuki armed groups that damaged several properties at Ireng Liangmai Village, inscribed 'Kukiland' at the village monoliths and intimidated the village chairman, the HYF said and added that such actions by the Kuki armed groups expose their hostility and envy toward other communities.
The Front questioned why the Central Government has taken no action against the Kuki armed groups, despite their hostility occurring right under the nose of Central security forces.
Meanwhile, the HYF accused the GoI of treating the hill and valley districts of Manipur differently.
The Front questioned whether it isn't the responsibility of the GoI to protect the indigenous people of Manipur from drugs, accusing the Government of neglecting their plight.
It pointed out that many Manipuris have brought honour to the country, yet the alleged indifference of the GoI toward the indigenous people has deeply disappointed them.
Aren't Manipuris bonafide citizens of India?, the Front asked.
The HYF said that the GoI must work neutrally to bring lasting peace in the State.
