Imphal, September 12 2025:
The Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take swift and decisive action to end insurgency and militancy in the State, address the alleged ongoing persecution and human rights violations faced by the Thadou people at the hands of extremist Kuki supremacist groups and ensure the accurate and rightful representation of the Thadou identity in all legal and political processes.
In a statement, TIM said that the Thadou community extends a warm welcome to the Prime Minister on his scheduled visit to the State on September 13, 2025 .
As the most affected community in the tragic Manipur violence that began on May 3, 2023, the Thadou people have endured immense suffering, TIM said and added that yet, through it all, they have remained steadfast in advocating for peace, harmony, and stability, even in the face of grave threats and intimidation from anti-peace elements.
Saying that at this critical moment, all Thadou leaders are gathered for the funeral service of a Thadou martyr, who was brutally murdered by extremist Kuki SoO militants on August 30, TIM maintained that this tragic loss reflects the ongoing and deep-rooted tensions in the region.
The martyr will be laid to rest on September 13, with full honors from the Thadou community, it added.
TIM also expressed deep concern over the alleged continued persecution, human rights violations, and misrepresentation of the Thadou tribe as part of the broader 'Kuki' identity.
It is disheartening to witness the marginalization of the Thadou voice under militant dominance and the influence of certain civil society organizations (CSOs) that do not represent 'our values, culture, or aspirations,' TIM said.
Saying that the Prime Minister's visit presents a valuable opportunity for healing, peace, and truthtelling, TIM added that lasting peace and meaningful progress can only be achieved through honest engagement with the realities on the ground, particularly the issue of illegal immigration and border security and the controversial inclusion of "Any Kuki Tribes" in the 2003 amendment to the Scheduled Tribes list.
This vague and sweeping categorization has long been a source of tension, confusion, and injustice, and must be revisited in the interest of fairness and constitutional clarity, it said and urged the Prime Minister to take swift and decisive action to end insurgency and militancy in the State, address the alleged ongoing persecution and human rights violations faced by the Thadou people at the hands of extremist Kuki supremacist groups; and ensure the accurate and rightful representation of the Thadou identity in all legal and political processes.
