Imphal, September 08 2025:
The Youth Front of the Manipur People's Party has warned of boycotting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's anticipated September 13 visit to the State if its demands are "ignored or sidelined" .
The Prime Minister is likely to visit Manipur on September 13, and it will be his first visit to the State since violence broke out in May 2023 .
In a charter of demands, the MPP Youth Front submitted to Governor Ajay Kumar today, it put forward five demands for the Government to consider and implement immediately.
The proposed visit of the PM is taking place at a time when the State is still reeling under deep crisis, displacement, economic collapse, and social flagmentation, the MPP Youth Front said, demanding a special economic grant for Manipur.
A dedicated Special Economic Grant must be announced to revive Mam-pur's broken economy.
This is to prioritise the rebuilding of local infrastructure, promotion of agriculture and MSMEs, and support famflies affected by the unrest, it said.
Secondly, "buffer zones" within the State is unacceptable and it must be removed immediately, the MPP Youth Front said.
A buffer zone divides communities and limits freedom.
"We demand its complete removal, as no part of a State should be treated as a separation line between its own people," it said.
Thirdly, the displaced citizens must be immediately rehabilitated and enabled to return to their original homes with full security and dignity.
Continuing to keep them in relief camps is inhumane and unjust, said the MPP Youth Front.
Further, Government benefits must be delivered to the displaced persons through Direct Benefits Transfer without the involvement of any third party, it added.
Stating its fourth demand, the MPP Youth Front said there must be freedom of movement across the State.
"We demand unrestricted movement for all communities within Manipur.
The presence of checkpoints, restrictions, and fear must end.
True peace cannot exist without the freedom to live and move without fear," it said.
The MPP Youth Front then sought a massive job package for youths of the State.
The youths of Manipur are facing a severe unemployment crisis.
The Central Government must announce a massive, timebound employment and entrepreneurship package tailored to the needs of Manipur's young population, it said.
If the demands are not addressed and no meaningfill announcements are made during the Prime Minister's visit, then his visit will be seen as empty and symbolic, said the Front.
The Manipur People's Party-Youth Front will boycott the visit of the Prime Minister if these demands are ignored or sidelined.
This is not a threat - it is a peaceful democratic expression of the people's voice and pain, which has long been neglected.
Manipur deserves action, not empty promises, it said.
The front urged the Governor to convey the urgency of the issues to the Prime Minister and relevant Central authorities.
The time to restore justice, unity, and peace in Manipur is now not later, it added.
